eXcalibr Book of Earache is a comprehensive small arms replacer and overhaul featuring hi-res, fully animated weapon models and outstanding textures. It replaces all small arms, bladed melee weapons and all uniques except the MIRV.
eXcalibr Book of Earache is designed for the seasoned player looking for a unique experience before we all move to New Vegas. For first time players, this mod will most likely replace all weapons, ammo, and shells with <!>.
eXcalibr Book of Earache is an extender for the eXcalibr Munitions Shop mod and requires all of the shop resources. Sort of like FOSEnhancements on Afterburner. Installing this mod WILL reset the Munitions shop and you WILL lose all your shop guns. Please see the Munitions shop page for full description and installation instructions.
eXcalibr Book of Earache is fully compatible with the EVIL path. If Megaton is destroyed, the munitions shop miraculously gets blow clear of the explosion and lands on a nearby hillside. Some of you may find that to be an easier way to gain entry, but I'd kill the residents and take their guns first.
Weapons:
This mod is more than a replacer. It adds a TON of guns. More than 100 variations including weapons never before seen in Fallout3.
Unlike most weapon mods, this one does not add weapons to enemy weapon lists or to a crate outside vault 101. Instead, it gives individual weapons to named NPCs, random encounter NPCs, and specific factions. It then spreads the rest all over the wasteland for you to find.
Ahzteks666's overhaul and MunkeeNut's Armory provide the core weapons for this mod. Select weapons from artists like Redline_64, Toxa01, Soulace, and many more were selected for inclusion. There are even some previously unreleased weapons from some well known modders.
All weapons are Hi-Res, fully animated, and hand tweaked. The vanilla weapon replacers were re-textured by fr33Bass to show signs of age: like scratches, wear, mismatched parts, and the occasional tape repair. Specialty weapons are treated with the reverence they deserve.
They show no rust or dirt. Would you really fire a dirty, rusty gun? Even Stupidmutants aren't that dumb.
Features:
Replaces all companion weapons with unique, playable guns. Paladin Cross and Elder Lyons have smallguns instead of energy weapons. Does not replace energy weapons like Ahztek's overhaul.
All uniques are truly UNIQUE and worth questing for. Missing uniques are added to the gameworld.
100 additional new weapons are scattered about for you to find. With scores of new weapon scripts, you never know when you are going to stumble across something extraordinary, or find yourself in the crosshairs.
A wide variety of ammo types is employed. A minimal amount of ammo is spread throughout the wasteland, and all NPCs have required ammo for the weapons they carry. Additional ammo can be added to vendors and loot lists with an optional esp.
A scaled kickback/muzzle rise effect is include for all smallguns. A 7.62mm automatic kicks like a mule. A match grade pistol with a compensator hardly rises at all. An algorithm applies the appropriate kickback for 3rd party weapons.
A light version of Shells Rain is integrated. Hallelujah, its rainin' shells.
CRAFT AMMO schematics is integrated and updated with xCALIBR names an more ammo types.
Damage level are higher than vanilla but not as high as FWE, but are competitive to a talented player. Damages are internally balanced.
More variations of the open field reflex scopes introduced with the Munitions Shop.
Missile launcher replaced by Toxa's RPG-7.
Compatibility:
Book of Earache is designed with a minimal footprint to co-exist with as many mods as possible. Obviously, it doesn't work with other replacers, but it was developed and tested with FWE and 20CW. It should work fine with FOOK2 weapon wise, but there will likely be conflicts with placement of world objects.
Greater source of conflict would be Project Beauty or Ling Pretty Things as this mod changes the inventory of dozens of NPCs.
In general, load the xCALIBRuniverse.esp file after all your major mods and you will have a playable game.
NOT compatible with WMK. Want a scope for that gun? Find someone who has one and take it.
NOT compatible with CRAFT Ammo Schematics. Its already baked in.
Quest:
eXcalibr Universe contains a quest for the Book of Earache, a legendary weapons field manual long thought to be lost. This is more or less the back story of how Sy learned to build the great guns that he builds.
Following the quest will unlock the hotkeys for the weapons as well as the ammo schematics required to craft your own. Successful completion will give the player the ability to customize hotkeys and optionally disable the kickback effect.
Completion will also unlock several vendor features. NightCaptain Durga will offer for sale most of the mod weapons so you can purchase what you cannot find. A new vendor you meet along the way will offer to upgrade some of the vanilla guns.
The quest starts in the eXcalibr Munitions Shop after you prove your chops.
